CHOQUEQUIRAO TREK

PROGRAM

We leave from cusco at 5:00 am in our private van which will take us until Cachora, an andean comunity locted   at around 4-5 hours fr Cusco from. After 2 hours and a half we will finally reach it, we will have a stop in Tarawasi, where we will visit the archaeological site where we will find an Inca usno on which ceremonies and celebrations dedicated to the Pachamama ,an Inca deity, were made. We left Tarawasi and continue on the road. Crossing the Apurimac River and climbing towards Curahuasi and Saywite, one hour from our second stop. Here we are going to visit the famous Inca rock where you can see a model of the Tawantinsuyo Empire with carvings of animals representing their main deities.From Saywite, we continue 30 min to Cachora at 2800m / 9184ft where we will enjoy our lunch. In the afternoon we will start our walk approximately 2 hours and 30min to the Abra de Capuliyoc at 2750m / 9020ft, where we can enjoy some beautiful views of the mountains that surround the Cañon del Rio Apurimac. Then we continue descending approximately for 2  hours more until Chiquisca where we will camp.

We left Chikisca at 6:00 am and then descend one hour to Rosalina beach, then cross the Apurimac River and start climbing up to Santa Rosa, a stairway in a zigzagging way, climb these stairs approximately 2hr -2: 30hr ., It is important to leave very early so that the walk is not so difficult because of the sun. In Santa Rosa, we will rest for 30 minutes, in this place we will be able to observe the processing of the sugar cane and the extraction of the Cambray typical drink of the area. Afterwards, we continue for 2h 30 min, a slow ascent hike until we reach the lunch spot in Marampata. From here 2 hours more to the complex of Choquequirao, located at 3103m / 10178ft, where we will settle our camp and have a free time to explore the terraces and buildings and when the sun is setting we can appreciate how the condors sometimes alight on the Canon.

After our breakfast, we return to Santa Rosa, where we will have our lunch, then we continue our descent for another 2 hours to Rosalina beach at 1450m / 4756ft, we can have a time to cool off with the waters of the Apurimac River, camping and have dinner here.

After our breakfast we leave to start for 3 hours climbing up to the pass of Capuliyoc, where we will make a stop until we wait for our lunch to be ready. Then we continue another 2 hours taking the route to Cachora, where our private transport awaits us to take the group and the staff back to Cusco. The estimated time of arrival is 9:00 p.m.
