ITINERARY

Drive from Huaraz to Cebollapampa 3850m, getting through the famous twin lakes of Llanganuco and then continuing up to a hairpin bend in the road called the “Curva” at 4580m. From here the hike to Yanapaccha’s Morena Camp starts and it lasts about 3 to 3 ½ hours.

*3 -4 hours drive  / 2 -3 hours hike up.

The initial ascent onto the glacier is usually a short steep ice climb & then there is more gentle terrain on the glacier you have to negotiate crevasse fields to arrive at the west face of Yanapaccha which we climb to the summit. The last 200m to reach the summit is steep 65 deg. About 3 to 4 rappels are required during the descent. Return back to Morena Camp & then walk back the same path back to the road. Since here we’ll start another hike up to get Chopicallqui’s base camp

*8- 9 hours climbing & hiking for this day.

After the breakfast in the Base Camp you hike up to the Moraine Camp for about 4 hours, during this hike you can enjoy the splendid view in the north side like Pisco, Huandoy and Chacraraju peaks, lunch along the way, after arriving to the campsite you can rest and have diner early. overnight Camping at  4850

After the breakfast, climb up moraine rock for 1½ hours before reaching the glacier. Then 3 to 4 hours of steady climbing on up to 30 deg. of crevassed snow slopes which you have to negotiate carefully to avoid crevasses before reaching Camp 1, on snow, at 5500m

Climb to the summit. This day is the most important and a little hard to climb. Departure toward the summit (6,354m). at 1:00 am in the morning after a light breakfast, climbing for about 5 to 06 hours The first 2 to 3 hours are steady climbing. There are crevasses and seracs to avoid as we climb 30 to 50 deg. slopes to the summit shoulder. From the summit shoulder the difficulty of climbing is mixed with some easy 45 deg. slopes to sections of steep up to 85 deg. technical climbing.  In the way you find steep pieces where to climb cooperating with your leader guide so after enjoying the views of Huascaran, Huandoy, Contrahierba, Pisco, Chacraraju mountain you  descend  by climbing down and abseiling to Camp1 where the cook will be waiting with hot drinks and something to eat,

*10 to 13 hours for this day.

After the last breakfast in the Moraine Camp of Chopicalqui, descend to the Base Camp for about 1 hour half, continue walking down to the highway called Curva de Chopicalqui, where our transfer will be waiting to bring you back to Huaraz.
